The advance of the Kingdom of God is unstoppable. But the growth rate of its expansion in a nation can be measured. The Scripture and history both teach us that the beginning of proclaiming and advancing the glory of God is to know the truth. Jesus said, “you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” (John 8:32)

Unless we prepare a new generation of believers to defend the Biblical foundations of our nation, we will fall into the cultural and spiritual malaise that has engulfed Europe.

There is an antidote to this onslaught. God’s people are riding the wave of history, not bucking it. We can do more than pluck a few souls from the collapsing edifice of the world. We can and shall, by His grace, build His Kingdom, and nothing on earth can stop God’s church.

“…Jesus said, “On this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it…” (Matthew 16:18)

John Robinson, the faithful pastor to the Pilgrim fathers and mothers, gives us a sobering and deep understanding of the battle we face. These are his final words from a letter he sent out to the seed of a church entering the untamed wilderness of America.

Thus this holy army of saints is marshaled here on earth by these officers, under the conduct of their glorious Emperor, Jesus Christ. Thus it marches in this most heavenly order and gracious array, against all enemies, both bodily and ghostly; peaceable in itself, as Jerusalem, terrible to the enemy as an army with banners, triumphing over their tyranny with patience, their cruelty with meekness, over death itself with dying.

Thus, through the blood of that spotless Lamb, and that Word of their testimony, they are more than conquerors, bruising the head of the Serpent; yea through the power of His Word, they have the power to cast down strongholds, and everything that exalted itself against God.

The gates of hell, and all the principalities and powers on earth shall not prevail against it.

If God used this small band of Saints to rock the 17th Century, can He not use us to advance the Kingdom of God in our Century? May we lay our lives down as steppingstones, as they did, for the propagation of the Gospel to the remotest parts of the earth.
